Those short-wave infrared heaters are great for instant warmth, but the light they give off can be brutal. It’s not just annoying—it can actually be hard on the eyes. This is especially true for babies, whose eyes aren’t as protected as ours. Nobody wants a morning routine that starts with a blinding flash of white light. How we fix the glare We don’t just dim the bulb—that would kill the heat. Instead, we play around with the light itself. We use special quartz glass with specific coatings or gas fills. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the lamp. It blocks out those harsh blue wavelengths that cause eye strain and pushes the energy into the infrared range. The result? You get a soft, gentle glow instead of a spotlight. Heat vs. Light Here is the tricky part: to get a bathroom warm quickly (especially when it’s damp and chilly), you need a lot of power. Usually, more power means more blinding light. To get around this, we tweaked the mirror reflector. We shaped it to act like a filter. It focuses the heat into a concentrated beam so you feel it immediately, but it scatters the light so it doesn’t hit you all at once. You get the warmth, but you lose the glare. A few things to keep in mind If you’re swapping these into an R7 base, they’ll fit right in. But there’s a small trade-off. Because we’re filtering the light, you lose a tiny bit of heat efficiency compared to a totally clear tube. It’s a small price to pay for not blinding your customers. One last tip if you’re designing a high-end line:watch your venting. Because of those coatings, the surface of the glass can get a bit hotter than the clear stuff. Make sure the housing has plenty of airflow. You don’t want the heat building up enough to warp the plastic casing. Keep it breezy, and you’re good to go.
