
Stop Wasting Heat in Your drying Line
If you’ve ever run an energy audit on a wafer drying line, you know exactly where the problem is. It’s that gap between the lamp and the substrate. Most standard reflectors just scatter infrared energy everywhere. Instead of hitting the wafer, a huge chunk of that heat just bounces off the chamber walls. It’s a total waste. That’s why we use gold-coated reflectors. Why gold? It comes down to how it handles infrared light. Gold is just better at reflecting long-wave and mid-wave energy than aluminum or stainless steel. Now, aluminum isn’t bad at first, but it hates the heat of a fab environment. It degrades. Gold, on the other hand, doesn’t oxidize. It stays consistent. That means more actual watts hitting the wafer, not the walls. Plus, we don’t just let the heat wander. We shape the reflectors to squeeze that energy into a tight beam. You get a higher heat density on the surface without having to crank up the power on your lamps. The catch Look, there are trade-offs. Gold isn’t cheap, so your initial bill is going to be higher. But you have to look at it as a way to slash your operating costs over time. There’s one more thing: gold is picky. If your fab has organic outgassing or chemical vapors floating around, a tiny film of grime will settle on the surface and kill your reflectivity. You’ve got to keep them clean, or you’re just throwing money away. Getting it into your fab The good news is that these are usually drop-in replacements for your standard housings. No need to rebuild everything. We just align the focal point right to the wafer plane. This keeps the heating uniform across the whole 300mm surface, so you don’t end up with hot spots that warp your substrates. When you’re picking out a drying system, don’t just add more lamps because you think you need more heat. That just puts a massive load on your HVAC system. Focus on the efficiency of the reflectors instead. Put the heat where it actually belongs: on the wafer.
